An original home portrait is a beautiful way to preserve family memories of your childhood home, your present home, or perhaps a vacation cottage.   It also makes a unique and thoughtful gift for a wedding, anniversary, or housewarming.   I will do a commissioned watercolor painting for you, based upon your photograph or my visit to your home.   I can also paint a landscape scene on a commissioned basis.   For example, some people may want a painting of the view of the lake from the porch of their summer cottage.   Or, you may want a painting of just your porch, itself.   You decide what you want.

Photography tips:

Please send me a clear photo of your home, preferably taken on a sunny day.   The light is usually best in the early morning or late afternoon.   It is fine, even desirable, to have shadows from the roof and trees falling on the house.   It would be good to send me some pictures of the front door, the shutters, or anything else you want depicted that doesn’t show up clearly in the primary photo.

What Happens Next: The Process

Upon receipt of your photo I will call you to discuss the details of your painting.   This is the most important step in the process because I really want to know what is important to you.   You may want me to exclude certain things, such as that hideous fence rail of your neighbor’s, or perhaps you want me to make the shrubbery or flowers a little different than they actually are.   When we are both satisfied that we are on the same page I will start work on your painting.   When I am finished I will notify you either by phone or email.

Your finished painting:

Your finished painting will be matted, museum mounted and ready to be framed in a standard 16"x20" frame.   The actual size of the painting is about 11"x 15".   I use acid free, French manufactured Arches, the highest quality watercolor sheets.   Usual lead time is about four weeks from the date your order is received.   Rush orders are accepted if my schedule permits.

Pricing and delivery:

$225 for most commissioned work as described above.   If the subject matter is unusually complicated the price will be adjusted accordingly, by mutual agreement ahead of time.   If you live in the Rochester area and would like me to take the pictures I can do that for an additional fee of $30.00.   Orders may be picked up by appointment, or shipped via UPS or USPS.   The cost of the shipping will vary, depending on your zone.
